Peugeot 908 ready for Le Mans 2011

Peugeot unveiled last week the new generation of the 908, its representative in the most difficult endurance race “Le Mans 24 hours”.

The French model wants to overthrow the Audi R18 with a new turbodiesel engine, a V8 that replaces the old V12, but keeps the same architecture. The unit is capable of developing 550 HP, sufficient resources to propel to victory the new Peugeot 908, that is based on the 2009 model that was victorious at Le Mans.

Bruno Famine, the Peugeot Sport Technical Director, said: “We took the experience we acquired with the V12 engine and opted for a similar one, but with eight cylinders. The eight-cylinder engine has a capacity of 3.7 liters and was tested for the first time on 25 January”.

At this year presentation of the 908, Peugeot has also published the list of people who will drive the new 908. It is the former Formula 1 drivers Alex Wurz, Stephane Sarrazin and Sebastien Bourdais, who will be joined by Anthony Davidson.
